posted Nov 23, 2018, 7:23 AM by Darien Historical News   [ updated Dec 4, 2018, 9:57 AM ]
Join us at 6:30 p.m to celebrate the opening of "In Conversation," an art show and fundraiser to benefit the Darien Historical Society. Arranged by artists in the Concepts Group, the works respond to sculptures currently on display in the Society's exhibition "About Time," featuring the sculptures of Margaret Brassler Kane.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a panel discussion, "Equal Opportunity in the Art World," moderated by Kathleen Motes Bennewitz, co-curator of "About Time" and Westport's Town Curator.  The panel discussion is co-sponsored by the Darien Arts Center.

Panelists will include:
  • Peter Layne Arguimbau — A Darien native, painter, and restorer and co-owner of Arguimbau Art Gallery in Greenwich, and Mariner Gallery in Newport.
  • Babette Bloch — A sculptor from Redding and a pioneer in the use of laser-cut and water jet-cut stainless steel.
  • Marc Mellon — A sculptor from Redding and one of America’s foremost figurative sculptors whose works are featured in corporate, private and public collections throughout the world.
  • Lisa Thoren — A Darien artist and graduate of Parsons School of Design who creates using a graphic approach and explores all mediums.
  • Mary Whalen — A Westport painter and writer who began her career in the 1940s. Whalen will offer a unique perspective on the challenges faced by professional women at that time.
Register here. We look forward to seeing you there!
